Interview with doctors Grace Eldering and Pearl Kendrick, bacteriologists who developed a pertussis vaccine. These two women health professionals worked for the Michigan Department of Public Health during the height of the whooping cough epidemic of the 1930's. Their combined effort created a vaccine to tackle the devastating effects of the whooping cough on children in the state and entire country. Both doctors discuss in detail their procedures for the development of the vaccine as well as their experiences working with the World Health Organization to eliminate communicable viruses world wide. Dr. Grace Eldering was born on Sept. 5, 1900 in Hysham, Montana. She received a B.A. in biology/chemistry from the University of Montana (1927) and a doctorate in immunology from John Hopkins University (1941). Eldering began working as a microbiologist for the Michigan Dept. of Public Health in 1928. In 1932, Eldering, along with Dr. Pearl L.
